Educate A Child

Educate A Child

Today, there are 59 million children who have no access to quality primary education because of constraints such as extreme poverty, cultural barriers, and conflict-affected environments.

In September 2015 the UN agreed on Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’. Embedded in this broad goal, and with special attention drawn to them, are the millions of children who are out of school at the primary level. Within the ‘unfinished agenda’ of SDG4, EAC is continuing its support for out of school children (OOSC).

EAC’s particular mandate is to influence the enrolment and retention of at least 10 million children who are out of primary education. EAC targets hard-to-reach marginalised children; in particular children in poverty; those who face social or cultural barriers to education; and those in crisis and conflict-affected environments. By working in partnership and emphasising innovation, scale and sustainability, EAC will contribute to enabling every child to fulfil her/his right to quality education.

EAC envisions a world where every individual has the opportunity to learn through a quality education. It does this through funding direct interventions linked to bringing OOSC into quality primary education programmes. It maintains a key focus on priority countries, and is, in many ways, a ‘scale-up’ programme. EAC finances projects on a co-funding basis as a means to leverage limited financial resources.

EAC is a bold commitment to children who are out of school to help provide them with opportunities to learn at the primary level.

  • Since inception, EAC has implemented 74 projects in 51 countries.
  • To date, EAC’s actual enrollments surpass more than 9.2 million out of school children and the organisation has commitments in place to reach more than 10.4 million.
  • With its partners, EAC works to reach 10 million out of school children with access to quality primary education.
